In the past, Mecha outsourced any type of laser engraving requirement. We recently purchased a Trotec Speedy 360 to bring that process in-house. This has allowed us to shorten our lead-times reduce costs, and control quality better than ever with associated parts.
We’re finding all kinds of other uses for the laser as well. It saves a lot of time versus machine engraving or stamping some parts. We use it to cut gaskets that were previously hand or die cut. We quickly and easily cut various plastic parts that we used to machine. We even use the laser to make customer packaging for shipping parts.
And some of our people like to sneak onto it when it’s not being used for production to customize their cell phones or cases with laser engraved images. We might have to start charging them for that!
